Research

My M.Sc. degree began in September 2016 and focuses on how the introduction of dreissenid (Dreissena spp.) mussels and round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) has affected the trophic ecology of lake sturgeon in the Laurentian Great Lakes. Using a combination of acoustic telemetry and stable isotopes, I plan to provide a temporal assessment of feeding ecology at the individual and population level. Researching both diet and habitat use of a long-lived benthic species will inform managers of changes in benthic food web connectivity in relation to dreissenid and round goby invasions. Once made available, managers and policy makers can use this information for future conservation and restoration projects.
